An introduction to systematic review and meta-analysis

This virtual workshop is the first national systematic review and meta-analysis workshop that will be held on March 4, 2021 through the Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Studies Center of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences (SYRMAN). Due to the COVID-19 challenging time, this workshop will be held virtually in the form of a webinar. Online lectures, questions and  answers, live chats and some exercises, all being in a virtual environment, will be available

Aim/ Content:

This virtual workshop aims to familiarized participants with systematic review studies and meta-analysis. It will include:

Introduction to the principle of systematic review and meta-analysis studies

o   Types of the studies and the concept of primary and secondary studies

o   Defining the types of review studies and the difference between review studies and systematic review and meta-analysis

o   Formulating a systematic review question based on PICO /PECO

o   Type and scope of the question, components of the question, research question modification

o   Specify keywords

o   Determining inclusion and exclusion criteria

Search for evidence

o  Searching database and finding the relevant documents

o   Sensitivity and specificity of systematic search

o   Develop a quality search strategy

o   Managing & Documenting Results

o   Screening articles by title and abstract

Quality assessment

o   Risk of Bias assessment in Clinical Trials

o   Steps to review documents based on related tools

Data extraction and running a meta-analysis

o   Data extraction based on the prepared checklist

o   Fixed- versus Random-Effects Models in Meta-Analysis

o   Common charts and tests in meta-analysis

o   Quantifying Heterogeneity in a Meta-analysis

o   Strategies for addressing heterogeneity

o   How to conduct meta-analysis

o   Subgroup analysis

o   Sensitivity analysis

Interpretation of the results and report a meta-analysis study

 

o   Investigating heterogeneity and interpreting sensitivity analysis

o   Interpretation of the pooled effect size

o   Describing publication bias

o   Interpretation of forest plot and funnel plot and sensitivity analysis charts

o   Principles of Cochrane Review and its differences from other systematic reviews
